Growing Wheatgrass and Growing Healthy
So, you’ve been wheatgrassin’ for awhile, you’ve experienced the healthful benefits that it brings, and now you’re ready to grow your own? Awesome! Growing wheatgrass is not unlike growing anything else, but getting the right setup can make things go so much more smoothly. I personally have been eating natural for many years and lately have started to grow much of my own food. Getting yourself setup to grow one of nature’s most potent superfoods is a no-brainer, in my opinion. Not to mention the satisfaction of knowing that you can produce your own food.
The most convenient way to grow wheatgrass is to go with a wheatgrass growing kit. The kits contain the seeds, instructions, trays and the growing medium. Probably the best place to get these is online, as I have yet to see one for sale in my local health food store.
To extract the juice from wheatgrass, it needs to be pressed or squeezed. An average juicer is not properly designed to accomodate juicing wheatgrass. You will need to get a juicer that is designed for leafy vegetables such as spinach or lettuce. Manual wheatgrass juicers are available and are cheaper, but it is often worth it to spend the extra money for an electric wheatgrass juicer.
Many people grow their wheatgrass indoors, year round, but here is a video of someone showing how to start growing wheatgrass outside:
Also, growing wheatgrass can have its challenges. For one thing, they can be prone to mold. But, there are several things that can be done to deal with this issue. Some people, especially big families, have a problem with running out of growing space. This is also easily dealt with by either making or purchasing your own stacked growing racks. Indoor greenhouse kits are also available. It will take some trial and error to figure out how much wheatgrass will need to be grown for each family.
